When it comes to technology, there is traditionally a trade-off between integration and functionality. The best available functionality may not be available without a major overhaul of your current technology. 90POE overcomes this problem by adopting an integrated ‘technology platform’ approach based in the cloud. This means our clients benefit from a ‘zero infrastructure’ installation, unprecedented levels of security and availability, and universal access to the system seamlessly across multiple devices, regardless of the user’s location.
We have developed a suite of functional modules for this platform that is as good as anything on the market, but that operates within a single, common user environment. This means the user does not have to worry about switching between interfaces, but can use our single, cloud-based platform, which securely integrates data and workflows from legacy systems, enterprise systems and third party systems as well as onboard systems. It is deliberately configured to be open and modular, so clients can easily select the elements that are best suited to their needs. 90POE brings together three key solutions that work together in an integrated way to meet our clients’ operational needs.
Open Ocean Studio
OpenOcean Studio® is the platform itself, provided on a 'software as a service' basis to give users that single common environment to manage and monitor all fleet-related activities. The platform consists of a number of core modules that cover the majority of activities associated with a customer’s fleet management operations and provide users with comprehensive capabilities to respond to operational activity in real time.
User-configured dashboards present the most relevant information for each user’s day-to-day activity, with notifications and alerts to keep them fully apprised of conditions and performance. Customisable KPIs provide commercial and operational metrics for both individual vessels and the fleet as a whole. Meanwhile, operational insights are generated through the real-time integration of data from vessel systems, IoT and external sources such as weather and AIS services, in order to enable better informed decision-making.
OpenOcean Studio® can also be used to automate common tasks between ship and shore and across internal departments, relieving the administrative burden on seafarers who are otherwise required to spend time producing manual reports for shore staff, port agents, charterers and others. This in turn means the number of seafarers onboard can be reduced safely with those remaining focused on managing the safe and efficient operation of the vessel.
OpenOcean onBOARD™ extends a subset of the OpenOcean Studio® functionality to each vessel within the fleet without the need for a connection to the cloud. This is invaluable given that the reliability, bandwidth and latency of VSAT connections means permanent connectivity is not yet practicable. OpenOcean onBOARD™ also provides additional vessel-specific insights. It uses intelligent algorithms and machine learning to instantaneously process raw, high-frequency data from sensors, bridge systems and engine management systems into validated information for both ship and shore.
This makes a huge difference, because while the majority of a fleet’s operational data is generated by the vessels themselves, much of it typically stays onboard the vessel or is transmitted directly to third parties, missing the opportunity to gain valuable operational insights. OpenOcean onBOARD™ makes the real-time information available to the onboard crew so they can improve vessel-based operational decisions or prepopulate manual reports.
OpenOcean onBOARD™ can also be used to manage the secure and efficient transmission of data between ship and shore by compressing and encrypting all communications. This communication capability can buffer communications in the event of VSAT outage, ensuring critical operational data is never lost.
Finally, Oktopus One® is 90PoE’s dedicated onboard industrial hardware. It provides secure ship to shore connectivity, wired and wireless IoT connectivity and intelligent edge processing, as well as local compute and storage for running OpenOcean onBOARD™.
Oktopus One® essentially collects engine, environmental and navigational data from onboard sensor systems, so this data can be processed and downsampled onboard. It can then be packaged or streamed to shore to be used within other OpenOcean Studio® modules. Oktopus One® can also make this data available to the onboard crew so they can prepopulate Noon Reports and any other reports requiring real-time data.
