With a global career spanning New York, Dubai, and London, Ana joined 90POE in the founding years, bringing deep shipping experience and a sharp strategic lens to the maritime tech space. Today, she plays a key role in shaping how the company grows, combining data, innovation, and market intelligence to help the industry cut emissions and operate more efficiently.
What first sparked your interest in innovation and market insight, and how has your journey evolved to bring you to 90POE?
I have always viewed knowledge as the ultimate currency. Market insight—when built on deep understanding—can be a catalyst for meaningful change. After earning a master’s degree in shipping, I worked in major shipping hubs including New York, Dubai, and London. I was drawn to 90POE when it was still a young startup, working to drive technological advancement in an industry known for being resistant to change. The team recognised the value of market analysis and strategic positioning early on, and it’s been exciting to watch the company evolve and rise in the maritime landscape.
In your view, what emerging technologies or market shifts could reshape maritime innovation in the next few years?
The shift toward decarbonisation is a major driver of innovation. It spans a wide range of areas, from alternative fuels and their optimal use to improved equipment, infrastructure, and operational excellence. The road to “net zero” is long, but it opens up vast potential for the industry to grow and innovate in impactful ways.
How would you position 90POE in the maritime competitive landscape?
I may be slightly biased, but I believe 90POE is becoming a strong contender in the maritime tech space. Right now, the market tends to offer either highly focused point solutions—like vessel performance tools—or broad ERP platforms that often lack depth in key areas. Many shipping companies end up piecing together different systems that don’t integrate well. At 90POE, we aim to deliver a full ERP solution with the depth of a point solution. “One source of truth” has been our lighthouse from the very beginning.
What are some of the biggest myths or misconceptions you've encountered about innovation in the maritime industry?
A common misconception is that innovation is an isolated process, performed by a select few within a company. In reality, innovation relies heavily on collaboration and diverse perspectives. Our clients’ challenges, their feedback, and even their working styles can be sources of inspiration and opportunity. Innovation is an evolving process that involves testing, failing, and learning - just like everything else.
